the Museum of Discovery and Science
Fort Lauderdale, September 19, 2003 - The Museum of Discovery
and Science will host a weekend of unique, entertaining and
educational shows about the science of energy, fire, and fire
safety. Mik Jacobs, the creator and presenter of Blazing
Science, will perform at 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on
September 27 and 28, 2003.
Visitors will be enthralled by the Blazing Science shows, which
are an exciting combination of Mik Jacobs’ theatrical experience
and his love of science. Mik Jacobs’ Blazing Science shows are
packed with visually amazing experiments that allow visitors to
discover the science behind fireworks and the secrets of motion
picture fire stunts. Visitors will also learn about fire safety
and the importance of Stop, Drop & Roll.
Mik Jacobs, an award winning writer and entertainer, has
performed with Universal Studios, Disney MGM and Sea World of
Florida. He has been writing and performing original theatrical
programs for over a decade with prominent institutions including
The Orlando Science Center in Orlando, Florida, Whitaker Center
for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and The
Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
He is an active member of the American Screen Actor's Guild, The
National Education Outreach Network, The International Museum
Theatre Alliance and a session speaker for The Association of
Science and Technology Centers and The Association for Living
History, Farm and Agricultural Museums.
ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE
The mission of the Museum of Discovery and Science is to promote
and increase the understanding and appreciation of science in
children and adults through entertaining interaction with
educational exhibits, programs and films. Founded in 1976 as The
Discovery Center, the nonprofit facility serves approximately
400,000 visitors each year.
The Museum is open seven days per week, Monday through Saturday
from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6:00 p.m.
with extended IMAX hours on Friday and Saturday evenings.
General admission prices are $14.00 for adults; $13.00 for
seniors and students; $12.00 for children 3 to 12. Children
under 3 are free. A General Admission Ticket includes admission
to the Museum exhibits and one IMAX® film. The Museum of
